Bat Ye’or was born in Egypt and later became a British citizen. She dedicates her work to documenting the situation of religious minorities living in the Muslim world. Bat Ye’or is well-known for using the term “dhimmitude” as a description of the status of non-Muslims living in an Islamic state. In 1997 and 2002, she spoke to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and at U.S. Congressional Human Rights Caucus (CHRC) Briefings.
